Pepo Park uses all natural ingredients whenever possible. We will never use petroleum based ingredients, artificial dyes or ingredients that are just plain unpleasant (like Sodium Laureth Sulphate and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate). What this means for you is that your skin will feel better than it ever has.

Essential oils:

Essential oils have been used throughout history for their well known therapeutic qualities. They are oils derived from plants through steam distillation or cold-pressing. The science of using essential oils for healing is called aromatherapy. Our interest in using and studying essential oils and our own experience with essential oils to help with various ailments is what lead us to use them in our products. If you are allergic to synthetic fragrances, you are unlikely to be allergic to essential oils unless you're allergic to the plant itself. Once you smell our products, scented with pure essential oils, you'll be hooked.

The properties of oils we commonly use: (this list is not exhaustive)

  • Lavender is widely touted as a “cure all”. The most common use of this oil is for relaxation as it is calming and soothing.
  • Citrus oils are generally uplifting and leave you feeling refreshed.
  • Lemongrass oil is good for headaches and lethargy. This may be why our lemongrass soap is our most popular.
  • Tea tree oil is another “cure all”. It is antiseptic, antibacterial, and antifungal and is used for skin problems like acne.
  • Peppermint oil is refreshing and stimulating. It helps relieve mental fatigue.
  • Rosemary oil is another oil that helps with mental fatigue and works as an anti-depressant.

There seems to be a theme: Uplifiting, refreshing, stimulating.  I wonder if it’s because we’re based in the cloudy Pacific Northwest? To learn more about essential oils, check our list of recommended reading.

Oils, butters and waxes:

  • Beeswax: Adds hardness to our lip balm and salve.
  • Candelilla wax: Derived from the leaves of the Candelilla plant. Adds smoothness to our lip balm.
  • Cocoa butter: Smooth and emollient. Has a slight cocoa scent.
  • Coconut oil: Lends hardness, cleansing properties and fluffy lather to our soap.
  • Grapeseed oil: A light, moisturizing oil that is readily absorbed by the skin.
  • Olive oil: Adds moisturizing qualities to the bars and helps our soap be mild.
  • Palm oil: Balances the potential drying effects of coconut oil, adds hardness and small lather to soap.
  • Shea butter: Extracted from fruit of the Shea tree. Absorbs rapidly into the skin. Very emollient.
  • Sweet almond oil: Prized for moisturizing qualities.

We keep your safety in mind and may use preservatives in some products. We stay up-to-date on the latest research, using natural products where possible. We feel that a little preservative from us or other products you use is better than mold or fungus growing in your product then making you sick. Our room spray contains a small amount of Cosmocil CQ, a bactericide. Fungus and bacteria grow in water, therefore, we recommend that any product you use that contains water also contain a good preservative.

  • Sodium hydroxide: Lye. Without lye, there is no soap.

What we don't use:

  • Detergents like Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES) or Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) or other synthetic cleansers
  • Artificial colors (listed on ingredients as CI numbers)
  • Petroleum based or derived ingredients
  • Propylene Glycol

We recommend that you do your own research on ingredients and make your own decisions about what you choose to put in and on your body. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
